Nancy White
Winner of three ACTRA awards for humour, is a witty
observer of the twitches and turns of popular culture. Born in the
Maritimes, hardened in Toronto, Nancy White rose to national
prominence as the writer and singer of topical songs on the CBC
Radio show, "Sunday Morning". But she's perhaps best appreciated
for her cd on the torture of motherhood: "Momnipotent: Songs For
Weary Parents". Her latest recording is "Stickers On Fruit" and
features comic gems like "Jesus At Tim's, "Nova Scotia Squirrel Stuffer"
and "The Shabbas Goy C'est Moi". Although a woman of considerable
sophistication, she has never made a martini, lanced a boil, or
corresponded with a prisoner.
Roger James
Describes his performance this way, "If I'm playing a song and you're
laughing, it's comedy. If you're not, it's music. Roger is a master
of the hilarious medley and his scholarly translations of incomprehensible
rock and roll songs are not to be missed. A terrific banjo and guitar player,
Roger also plays bodhran (Irish drum), bones, Celtic harp, and piano.
Combine this with musical styles as diverse as 50's and 60's rock
and roll, blues, folk, and bluegrass and you have an entertaining collision of
humour and musical skill. Film historians, please note, Roger appeared
onscreen as a fishmonger-street musician in the 1999 HBO movie "Vendetta".
His role last 52 seconds.
Wendell Ferguson
How many comedians do you know who are also award winning musicians.
He is a favorite with CBC Radio and was recently welcomed back to join in
on Lorne Elliott's Madly Off In All Directions .Wendells songwriting is pure
comedy, his shows are full of parody and satire and his wordplay speeds
past like a train through a one horse town. Quick on his toes -- or yours -- his
humour is intelligent, delightful or downright delinquent . It's no wonder he has
been called "The Cowboy Tom Lehrer". The other element that
makes his show top notch of course is the music. Wendell's fingers match his
wit with lightning dexterity. His guitar work has earned him 6 CCMA awards
and hundreds of album credits. He is brilliantly stupid, and an absolute delight
on stage.
